International Desk: A man shot and killed at least 12 of his relatives in southern Iran. On Saturday, the country's state-owned media reported the rare incident of shooting.
A 30-year-old man killed 12 members of his family by firing a Kalashnikov weapon in the city of Faryab in Kerman province, the country's official news agency IRNA reported. Among the dead are his father and brother.
The chief justice of Kerman province, Ibrahim Hamidi, said the killings were believed to be the result of a family dispute.
Later, members of the security forces conducted an operation to arrest the man, IRNA said. At that time, the person was killed in the gunfight.
Such mass shootings are generally rare in Iran. Because the country only licenses rifles to individuals for hunting purposes.
Last January, a soldier opened fire inside a base of the country's military in the same province. At least 5 soldiers were killed in this attack. Source: AFP.
