The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have arrested a total of 15 foreign students, including a Bangladeshi, on charges of 'cheating' with student work visas and living in the US. They were arrested on Wednesday (October 21). The ICE said it had identified 1,100 more foreign students who did not follow the rules.
The accused students claimed to be working for, actually no longer exist. ICE Director Tony Fame has warned that non-immigrant student would be arrested if they do not comply with the conditions or violate the rules; even they would be expelled from the United States.
ICE Director Tony Fame added, ‘The search for illegal immigrants began in January, dubbed as Operation Optical Illusion. It has just started. We will come to a more difficult decision. "
Among the students arrested on Wednesday were 11 Indians and two Libyans. The other two are from Senegal and Bangladesh.
Earlier on Tuesday, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials identified New York City as a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. That is why the city was raided. From there, 54 illegal immigrants were arrested on Tuesday. Against whom there are some big allegations like child abuse-rape, drug dealing etc. The arrested immigrants are citizens of China, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Grenada, Guyana, Honduras, Ireland, Jamaica, Mexico, Moldova, Mozambique, Pakistan, Panama, Peru and St. Lucia. They face charges of assault, child sexual abuse, rape, use of heavy firearms, theft, possession of property, drug dealing, driving under the influence of drugs, robbery and grand larceny.
The raids were carried out in different areas of New York City. Arrests were also carried out in neighboring counties of NASA, Suffolk, Duchess, Ulster and Westchester.
