<![CDATA[Following wetnesday’s victory in the Sylhet Test, Bangladesh national cricket team received another major boost— climbing two places to 7th in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Test rankings.

It is the highest position Bangladesh have ever achieved in Test cricket.

Bangladesh had previously risen to 8th place in 2018. The ICC updated the rankings immediately after the conclusion of the Sylhet Test.

Bangladesh moved up from 9th to 7th, overtaking both the West Indies cricket team and the Pakistan national cricket team. Pakistan slipped two places from 6th to 8th following the series defeat under Shan Masood’s captaincy, while the West Indies dropped one place to 9th. Sri Lanka national cricket team climbed from 7th to 6th.

After whitewashing Pakistan, Bangladesh’s rating points rose to 78, while Pakistan’s dropped to 75. Sri Lanka, directly above Bangladesh, now have 86 points.

Before the series began, Bangladesh had 67 rating points and Pakistan 89. That means Bangladesh gained 11 rating points from the series, while Pakistan lost 14.

Australia national cricket team remain top of the rankings with 131 points. They are followed by South Africa national cricket team (119), India national cricket team (104), England cricket team (102) and New Zealand national cricket team (101).

At the bottom of the table, the West Indies have 68 points, while Zimbabwe national cricket team have 10.

Neither Afghanistan national cricket team nor Ireland cricket team feature in the rankings because they have not played the minimum eight Tests required within the three-year cycle.

The 49-year-old posted a video on Instagram on Thursday from Brazil's Maracana stadium to tease the track, which features Nigerian singer Burna Boy. The song will be released on May 14.

In the footage, the singer appears alongside a group of dancers dressed in the colours of several of the national teams taking part in the tournament, which will be held from Jun 11 to Jul 19 in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The video also features the official match balls from the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups, apparently referencing the tournaments in which Shakira played a prominent role musically.

<![CDATA[Bangladesh have decided not to participate in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in India.

Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul confirmed the information after a meeting held with the players named in the World Cup squad on Thursday. After the meeting, he spoke to the media and criticised the International Cricket Council (ICC), alleging unfair treatment towards Bangladesh. He said the decision not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup is final and was taken by the government. “There is no opportunity to change our position on not going to India to play the World Cup,” the adviser said, adding that the ICC failed to ensure justice by not considering Bangladesh’s request for a venue change.

Asif Nazrul further stated that the security concerns which led to the decision remain unchanged. “Naturally, we all wanted to play in the T20 World Cup. But the security risks associated with playing in India still exist,” he said. “These concerns are not based on assumptions or theoretical analysis. They arose from real incidents.”

Following Asif Nazrul, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul also spoke to the media, reiterating that Bangladesh still wants to play its World Cup matches in Sri Lanka and will continue to pursue that option with the ICC.

Addressing the ICC’s description of the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League (IPL) amid protests by hardline groups as an ‘isolated incident’, the BCB president disagreed.

He said Mustafizur was dropped from an IPL team due to security reasons, not because of injury, personal withdrawal, or cancellation of his No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the BCB.

“Mustafizur did not pull out on his own, he was not injured, and the BCB did not cancel his NOC,” Aminul Islam said. “He was excluded due to security concerns. After that incident, we contacted the ICC and requested to play at an alternative venue.”

The decision is expected to have significant implications for Bangladesh cricket and the overall structure of the tournament, as the ICC weighs its next steps.
